Dyer County COVID-19 update for December 7

With the release of the Tennessee Department of Health’s (TDH) daily COVID-19 update on Monday, the department reported Dyer County as having a total of 3,431 COVID-19 cases, which consist of confirmed and probable cases. Additionally, the TDH said that Dyer County had 247 active cases with 3,131 recoveries/inactive cases.

Northview STEM students test homemade kayaks

Recently, 7th-grade students of Northview Middle School’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program created handmade kayaks to test at the pond at Oakview Golf Course. STEM instructor Mike French tested each kayak’s ability to float while holding approximately 400 lbs. of weight.

Newbern shooting suspect has murder charge amended to voluntary manslaughter

On Monday morning, December 7, Terence Jamal Robinson, 32, appeared in Newbern City Court for a preliminary hearing on a charge of first-degree murder following an October 25, 2020 incident, which resulted in the death of 49-year-old Robert Brandon. Following testimony, Newbern City Court Judge Jason Creasy amended the original charge to voluntary manslaughter and reduced Robinson’s bond from $150,000 to $50,000.

DPD responds to random gunfire during the weekend
