Morris Odean Coats, 76, of Newbern, Tennessee died on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee. Born Friday, December 29, 1944 in Brownsville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Joe H. Coats and the late Nadine Rickard Coats. Mr. Coats retired from the United States Air Force in 1984 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. After proudly serving his country, he worked at Bekaert and Nordyne. Dyersburg Board approves resolutions for grant, beer permit

On Monday evening, the Dyersburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen convened electronically at 7 p.m. Board members reviewed three items of new business, including administrative and engineering service resolutions for a Community Development Block Grant, a list of bids for various City departments, and held a public hearing for a beer permit.

Local fire departments battle Upper Finley shop blaze

Shortly before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, firefighters from Dyersburg and numerous Dyer County Fire Departments responded to 3866 Upper Finley Road in reference to a shop fire. According to the Dyersburg Fire Department, the shop was owned by Shultz Farms.

DPD arrests juvenile on weapon, burglary charges

On Tuesday morning, February 2, a 17-year-old Lauderdale County juvenile was taken into custody by Dyersburg Police detectives on charges of aggravated burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm, among other charges.
