Dyersburg Board approves budget, 5-cent property tax increase

The Dyersburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen convened for a special called meeting at City Hall to review the proposed 2021-2022 fiscal budget for the City. The proposed budget included a 5-cent property tax increase with funds to be used for street paving, a 3 percent salary increase for City employees, over $586,000 in Capital Outlay, and the addition of full time employees to various departments.

Man arrested following standoff with DPD

On Tuesday morning, a Dyersburg man was taken into custody after he reportedly barricaded himself inside a house resulting in a standoff with Dyersburg Police. DPD arrested Kovy Long, 26, of Dyersburg following the standoff on charges of aggravated burglary and resisting arrest. Additionally, Long was also wanted by DPD for burglary, vandalism over $1,000, and failure to appear.

Archives meeting discusses grant funds, future plans

On Thursday, June 24 a Dyer County Archives meeting was held at the archives office, located at 117 West Market St. in Downtown Dyersburg to review 2020-2021 archival updates and the archives building. Dyer County Chancery Court Clerk Steve Walker, who called the meeting to order, was present along with Dyer County Archivist Marilyn Holmes, Dyer County Historian Earl Willoughby, and Dyer County Register of Deeds Danny Fowlkes.

Local law enforcement agencies remind citizens of ordinances pertaining to fireworks

As community members prepare to celebrate Independence Day, local law enforcement agencies such as the Dyersburg Police Department, Newbern Police Department, and Trimble Police Department, remind citizens of their city ordinances prohibiting the discharge of fireworks. However, in Dyer County, there is not an ordinance in place outlawing fireworks, though the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office encourages those who use fireworks to do so safely.
