Dyersburg native receives Distinguished Flying Cross, helps save lives in battle

On June 22, a United States Air Force AC-130J Ghostrider gunship crew was awarded medals for providing cover and close air support for special forces personnel during a 2019 battle in Afghanistan. Dyersburg native Tech Sgt. Jake Heathcott, lead special missions aviator during the battle, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, an honor awarded to any officer or enlisted person of the U.S. armed forces for heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight.
