Some heartbreaks are major and life-altering, while some disappointments are just minor irritations. Regardless of their size or scope, disappointments still hurt. Lady Choctaws stunned by Crockett County

The 2022 District 13-AAA softball regular season champion Dyer County Lady Choctaws hosted the first game of the district tournament on Friday night in Newbern. The Lady Choctaws matched up against the fourth-seeded Lady Cavaliers. Crockett led early as after two innings the Lady Cavaliers went up 6-0. Dyer County had no answers for the Lady Cavaliers, who beat them 13-1 in only five innings.

Dyersburg comes up short against Obion

The fourth-seeded Dyersburg Trojans met the second-seeded Obion County Rebels in the District 13AAA Baseball Tournament. It was a slow start to the game with the first run coming in the bottom of the fourth inning. Obion led 6-0 going into the top of the seventh inning. With one chance to extend the game, the Trojans put up four runs in the final inning to come within two runs of the Rebels. Dyersburg was unable to finish the comeback as they fell to Obion 6-4.

Dyer County holds off Crockett County

It is a busy weekend at Dyer County High School with both the District 13AAA baseball and softball tournaments being held in Newbern. Both the baseball and softball teams faced off against the Crockett County Cavaliers Friday night. While the Lady Choctaws were upset, on the baseball side was a much closer contest. The two teams battled it out, but the Choctaws came out on top with a 4-3 win.

Lady Trojans season ends with loss to Dyer County

The Dyersburg Lady Trojans and the Dyer County Lady Choctaws met for the third and final time in the District 13AAA Softball Tournament in Newbern. The Lady Choctaws won the previous two matchups convincingly and would win again with a score of 7-0 thanks to 10 hits and just one error.

Choctaws advance to District 13AAA championship game

After one day in the books, the Dyer County Choctaws moved on to play the Obion County Rebels for day 2 of the District 13AAA Baseball Tournament. Despite a close matchup against Crockett the night before, Dyer County took control of this game, never trailing on their way to a 7-1 victory.

Obituaries for May 7

Elwood “Woody” Clifton, walked into the arms of his Savior Friday, May 6, 2022 while being held in the arms of the one he adored holding and kissing him as he drew his final earthly breath. He fought a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and ultimately God healed him of that when he took him home. Woody was born on January 2, 1932 in McNairy, Arizona to James and Eva McDaniel Clifton. He was a people person who had a quick wit living life to the fullest and experiencing many accomplishments and failures – heartaches and triumphs. He was the founder and president of Clifco Incorporated in Dyersburg.
