Myra was born March 1, 1961, in Dyersburg, TN, to the late James David "Sprig" Burns and the late Mary Evelyn Carper Burns. She was a receptionist for many years at Dyersburg Hospital. Dyer County School Board OKs policy changes, purchase of buses

The Dyer County Board of Education convened Tuesday evening, September 6, at the Milton Magee Auditorium for their regularly scheduled board meeting. Agenda items included the review and consideration of policies. A supplemental agenda was provided to consider the approval of purchasing buses for the school system’s transportation department.

Dyer County Fair hosts Senior Citizens Day

Hundreds of area senior citizens gathered at the Dyer County Fair Thursday morning for the fair’s annual Senior Citizens Day. Those 55 years of age and older were admitted into the fair free of charge and treated to various activities such as bingo, door prizes, and more. Sponsoring the day was First Citizens National Bank.

Fair holds groundbreaking ceremony for facility to house state’s oldest operating cotton gin

Continuing their efforts in preserving history and the rich, agricultural heritage in Dyer County, the Dyer County Fair held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday afternoon, September 8, for a facility to house the oldest operating cotton gin in the state of Tennessee, with a patent date of 1892, along with a generator used from 1922-1948, a meeting space and classroom to be located near the Sorghum Valley village at the fairgrounds.
