Choctaws hold off Tigers; girls dominate Hardin County

Though the Choctaws defeated Hardin County handily in their first meeting of the season in Newbern, Dyer County’s boys had a tougher time the second time around. However, the Choctaws were able to get back on the winning track with a 47-39 win over the Tigers in Savannah on Tuesday night.

Lady Trojans fall to Loretto in Pre-Christmas Tournament

After falling short in the first game of Gibson County’s Pre-Christmas tournament to South Fulton, the Lady Trojans battled against Loretto. They made a push in the fourth quarter before falling to the Lady Mustangs 68-55 Tuesday afternoon in Dyer.

Goodfellows packs 450 food boxes for delivery to local residents

This year marked the 77th of the Goodfellows project, sponsored by the Dyersburg Kiwanis Club. Monday night, volunteers packed 450 boxes with food items; the boxes were delivered to local families in need on Tuesday morning. Held at the Dyer County Fairgrounds, the annual event typically welcomes hundreds of volunteers for the box-packing event.

Dyer County native wins songwriting award for platinum single

Recently, Dyer County native and traditional country artist Tina Patterson-White was selected for two nominations at this year’s Josie Music Awards show held in October at the world-famous Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. White went on to take home the Songwriter Achievement award for her work. The Josie Music Awards show is the largest, all-genre, privately owned, independent music award show globally.

Montgomery named 2022 Trooper of the Year

Tennessee State Trooper David Montgomery is named 2022 Trooper of the Year. Montgomery began his career in April of 2000. He served five tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, and is a retired U.S. Army veteran, and was ranked 1st Sergeant (acting Sgt. Major). Montgomery also possesses a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
