Four-run inning gives Lady Choctaws rematch win over Dyersburg

Though local softball fans had to wait an extra day for the rematch between Dyer County and Dyersburg, the second matchup between the Lady Choctaws and Lady Trojans was worth the wait as a four-run third inning by Dyer County and a defensive stand in the top of the seventh by the Lady Choctaw defense secured a 4-2 win by the orange and white on Friday evening in Newbern.

Dyer County partners with Tennessee Delta Alliance for Forked Deer River basin cleanup

In recognition of Earth Day, April 22, cleanup efforts were staged this month welcoming roughly 30 volunteers. A partnership between the Tennessee Delta Alliance and Dyer County forged a large cleanup effort at the Forked Deer River basin, where volunteers spent a large portion of the morning cleaning tires, trash and other debris from around the area. Dyer County Mayor David Quick and Tennessee Delta Alliance Director Edmond McDavis spearheaded the effort with the assistance of the Dyer County Sheriff’s Department, Dyer County Recycles, Dyersburg Solid Waste, the Dyersburg Police Department, and Dyer County Building Inspector Dale Dozier and Amber Fitzhugh of Dyer County Building and Zoning.

City of Dyersburg hosts Spring Clean-Up

Throughout the month of April, the City of Dyersburg has hosted Spring Clean-Up events every Saturday at locations including Bruce Community Center, Okeena Park, and Dyersburg Activity Center. Each event was scheduled from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., with a rear-loading garbage truck on site. Residents were encouraged to bring trash, debris, clothes, bagged grass, and leaves. Pickup efforts were staged on April 22 at Future City Community Center, located at 490 St. Joseph Avenue.

EMS bids not open to public as county considers proposals

On Friday, April 28, Dyer County Director of Finance Amy Perkins opened bids for the emergency ambulance service. The opening of proposals has been a highly awaited moment as county commissioners, serving on their respective subcommittees, have hesitantly discussed the funding of various large county projects while waiting to see what range of bids would be received for EMS.
