Upperman forces Game 2 with walk-off ending to pitchers’ duel

Dyer County had the defending Class AAA State Champion Upperman’s back against the wall coming into Thursday’s TSSAA Class AAA Tournament Semifinal at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro but could not get the timely hit the Choctaws needed to break a tie ballgame before the Bees got a walk-off 2-1 win in the bottom of the seventh inning for force a second game for the right to go to Friday’s state championship game.

Upperman ends Dyer County run with four-run third inning

Though Upperman took command of the second game of the TSSAA Class AAA Baseball State Tournament Blackman Bracket final with a four-run third inning, Dyer County was able to chip away at the Bees’ lead before falling 5-2 to the defending Class AAA State Champions on Thursday afternoon in Murfreesboro.

Crossfield looks to continue to grow programming as executive director of Transitions

Since 2022, Theresa Crossfield has flourished in her new role as executive director of Transitions of Dyer County. A former school teacher, Crossfield said she was searching for a way to become more involved in the community after retirement. A native of Missouri, she relocated to Dyer County in 2021, and has enjoyed the relationships she has built in the community and with her church family at First Baptist Church.

Budget Committee tentatively approves 25-cent property tax increase

On Friday, May 26, the Dyer County Budget Committee approved the 2023-24 budget, tentative the approval of the Dyer County Legislative Body. Items voted on included employee raises, allocations for non-profits and county offices, and a 25-cent property tax increase.

The DAR and area children observe Memorial Day with a flag planting in Veterans Square

The local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution began Memorial Day observances with a flag planting ceremony at the Courthouse Square (Veterans Square). Children planted the flags after reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, hearing the Preamble to The US Constitution, and saying a prayer for the fallen.

Mahan announced as ERMCO Culture Champion

Nathan Mahan, ERMCO first shift HVAC Maintenance Technician, was recently named the company’s Culture Champion for the month of April. Nathan is nearing four years at ERMCO, being hired in July 2019. He began his ERMCO career in the Dyersburg Pole facility building lines and rebuilding air conditioners.
