Kidnapping suspect makes further appearance at Dyersburg City Court

Brenton Bell, 30, of Dyersburg, made another appearance in City Court on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, presenting Judge Dean Dedmon evidence of a negative drug test, a stipulation in the bail agreement.

Insurance Committee discusses increases in property, liability insurance

The Dyer County Insurance Committee met Tuesday, July 11, to discuss changes to the county’s liability and property insurance premium. Noted during the meeting, the county’s premium for buildings and contents has increased 30 percent effective July 1, 2023. The increase reflects a 10 percent per year increase stretched across three years, when county buildings were last appraised.

Health Council shares recent event updates, recognizes community partners

The Dyer County Health Council celebrated numerous community partners and leaders during its recent meeting, held at the PDC on July 11. The event recognized all who have contributed to various events and programs throughout the year, while also highlighting some of the organization’s recent accomplishments.

DCS Board of Education approves director contract, state-mandated changes to policies

Dyersburg City Schools Board of Education met Monday, July 10, at the central office to discuss, among other items, Director of City Schools Kim Worley’s renewed contract and school policies. Worley attended as did DCS Pupil Services Director Steve Nunley. Board members attending included Mike Hickman, Whitney Allmon, Courtney Patrick, Vice-Chair Dr. Scott Self, Carlos Doss, and Gleyn Twilla. Chairman Jim Coy Houston was absent.

Oakes appointed new athletic director at Dyersburg State

Dyersburg State Community College President Scott Cook has announced the appointment of Brian Oakes as the new Athletic Director. Oakes comes to Dyersburg State from Hinds Community College, where he spent the last 15 months as Director of the Wellness Center at the Utica Campus, where he oversaw the wellness center’s operations, including a mental health therapist, fitness center, and health clinic. ...

Dyersburg man sentenced for providing Fentanyl that caused overdose death

Corjustin Thompson, 27, of Dyersburg has been sentenced to a total of 14 years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections for the Sale of a Controlled Substance, Fentanyl and Reckless Homicide. Danny Goodman, Jr, District Attorney General for the 29th Judicial District announced the sentence on June 30, 2023.
