Area schools find solutions to low 3rd grader TCAP reading scores

After retakes of the English Language Arts TCAP test, over 50% of Dyersburg City Schools’ 3rd graders and 25% of Dyer County’s remained ineligible for promotion to the 4th grade. However, thanks to legislation which created “pathways,” almost all of the county and city’s 3rd graders transitioned to the 4th grade.

Thomas Andrew Davis, 79, of Halls, TN, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at his residence. Thomas was born on August 29, 1943, in Dallas, TX, to the late, Norman and Irene Meyers Davis. He was the owner of Davis Mobile Homes in Ripley, TN and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Thomas loved traveling with his wife, where they visited all 50 states in the U.S., 52 countries and 7 continents. They also went on mission trips to Turkey and Nicaragua...

Young Lady Choctaws look to face challenges in 2023

With large junior and freshman classes on the roster this fall, the Lady Choctaw soccer team may be young in years but a lot of the varsity players returning do have experience as they head into a District 13AA which has two teams returning who made it to the Class AA State Tournament last season.
