Dyer County Health Council hosts resource fair at McIver’s Grant

On Saturday, September 23, the Mental Health, and Substance Misuse Prevention Subcommittees of the Dyer County Health Council hosted a carnival-themed resource fair at the McIver’s Grant Public Library. The event was family-centered and interactive, with various carnival-style games, crafts, and fresh popcorn available for the approximately 150 attendees. Community organizations were also present to provide information on mental health and substance misuse prevention and treatment services.

Tennken Railroad awarded $7.37M CRISI grant to revitalize infrastructure in Tennessee, Kentucky

Dyersburg, TN – The Tennken Railroad, a stalwart short-line railroad serving communities in Tennessee and Kentucky, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $7.37 million Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) grant. This grant will be used to rehabilitate 43 miles of track to industry standards, fostering economic growth and ensuring the continued vitality of the region's rail transportation network.

DSCC Alumni Association hosts Annual Fall Dinner Meeting, silent auction

Dyersburg, Tennessee – Dyersburg State Community College’s (DSCC) Alumni Association hosted its Annual Fall Dinner Meeting and silent auction on Thursday, September 14. Approximately 30 Alumni Association board members, alumni, and their guests enjoyed a catered meal on the Katie Cottrell Winchester Terrace of the Dyersburg campus during the picturesque fall evening.

County program directors asked to step out of public meeting at request of Dyer County mayor

The Dyer County Building Committee met Thursday, September 21, to discuss bids for the Dyer County Community Complex. The meeting was chaired by Hunter Jackson with commissioners Dob Johnson and Bradley Gray present, as well as Dyer County Mayor David Quick. Others present included Veterans Services Director Benny Spain, Finance Director Amy Perkins, contractor Glen Still and Joey Junior, and Office on Aging Director Gail May.

Dyer County Emergency 911 Communications organizes benefit to help with local child’s treatment

On September 30, 2023, Dyer County Communications (Emergency 911) is coming together with other local business to mount a benefit for a local child receiving treatment at Le Bonheur. The infant daughter of Adrian and Brett Taylor, MaeLynn is suffering from as-of-yet undiagnosed, life-threatening issues, and her medical bills are expensive.

Dyersburg City Schools holds ceremony to induct DHS grads into the Hall of Honor

In a ceremony that saw Dyersburg High School graduates added to the City Schools Hall of Honor, honorees and families gathered on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the Dyersburg Middle School. Dyersburg City Schools Director Kim Worley inducted the honorees, noting that they “lead lives of passion,” some bringing that passion back to the community and all excelling, in part, because of the support of their families, the community, and their teachers. Honored were Senior Meteorologist Lelan Statom of WTVF television in Nashville, Dr. Cicely Mitchell, a biostatistics healthcare scientist, former Dyersburg Mayor, the late Bill Revell, and late Air Force pilot and First Tennessee Bank CEO, the late John Gauldin III.
