By William Northcutt --- If you’re lucky enough to survive the race through youth and middle-age, you’ll break the tape on senior citizenry. Let’s talk in real terms: These are the last years of our earthly existences. It seems that we enter that leg of the race so fast from this vantage point that we hardly believe we’ve made it this far. Until average life expectancy reaches 100, age is not “just a number.”

Velma Bryson Baker was born on August 30, 1933 in Kentucky, the daughter of the late Roy J. and Clatie Catherine Bryson. On August 24, 1963, she was united in marriage to David Baker, who preceded her in death on September 9,1997. Velma worked compassionately as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She enjoyed gardening, riding her scooter, and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Velma loved her English Bulldogs, George and Buddha, who became spoiled to her love...

Choctaws hold off Rebels to take Region 7-4A battle

The Choctaw defense survived both a potent Obion County Central offense as well as a bit of trickery by the Rebels to take a big Region 7-4A contest over the Rebels, 28-26, thanks to a big sack on a Central two-point attempt late in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
