Dyersburg and Three Oaks tangled in thrilling middle school basketball action, action that went to overtime in the boys' game.

DMS boys 46, Three Oaks 41 The Trojans and Eagles needed extra time to settle their affair on Monday night. Pierre Isom's 20-points lifted the Trojans, including his three field goals in the overtime.

Three Oaks trailed for much of the game, but scored 14 points in the final frame to force the overtime. "I am extremely proud of our players for their effort tonight," said Three Oaks coach Neal Chatham. "We rallied and forced overtime against one of the most talented middle school teams I have seen in a while. Our guys played hard and overcame mistakes to be within six at the half." Nathan Chatham led Three Oaks with 13. Derek Hinson added nine and Mareo Stewart scored six.

Lamar Jones scored 10 for DMS, Steven Brown seven. "Coach Mark Schneider has put together a great club," said Chatham. "Isom killed us in the first quarter and the overtime. For some reason records don't mean a lot when Dyersburg and Three Oaks play, boys or girls."

Three Oaks 58, DMS girls 43 Shaunda Strayhorn set a blistering pace with 25 points against Dyersburg as the Lady Golden Eagles captured the opener. Dyersburg and Three Oaks were locked into a tight battled and DMS trailed 24-23 at the half.

But Three Oaks put together a 19-point third frame to put DMS away. "The girls did a great job tonight," said Three Oaks coach Colleen Chatham. "We played sloppy in the second quarter, btu ever complete in the other three quarters."

Strayhorn's effort drew praise from the coach. "She did a great job filling it full," said Chatham. "Brandi Pack, Victoria McLin and Laura Hayes also played exceptionally well."

DMS rallied from a 10-0 deficit to make a game of it. "We fought back to only be down by one at halftime," said DMS coach Bubba Cobb. "We are a young, inexperienced team and make mistakes because of it. But we are working extremely hard." Cobb said the team had cut down on turnovers, but still had 20. But shooting improved, he said.

Jasmine Yancy led DMS with 14. Cali Cupples scored eight and Annessa Matthews scored seven. "Jasmine had her best game of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds," Cobb said. "Cali Cupples is finding her shooting touch." Three Oaks will next host Yorkville on Nov. 29 while Dyersburg will play Turesday, Nov. 27 against visiting Brighton. B-games for both start at 5:15.
