Doctor disciplined for illicit drug use

The Tennessee Department of Health placed a Friendship doctor on probation on Friday for prescribing himself drugs for personal use.
Dr. James Roy Appleton III, M.D. will be on probation for a minimum of three years, according to an agreed order.
The board found that the doctor prescribed himself Tramadol and Hydrocodone for personal use. The board also found that Appleton had a drug and alcohol problem that interfered with his ability to communicate with staff and patients.
