JACKSON, TENN. – On July 21, Governor Bill Lee, the Tennessee Department of Human Services, and the Financial Stimulus Accountability Group announced $150 million in Coronavirus Relief Funds would be made available to Tennessee non-profits to assist their efforts to address the ongoing health and economic impacts of COVID-19. Local leaders see this as a great success for those in West Tennessee.

Mayor John Holden of Dyersburg stated, “I’m thankful for the Tennessee Community CARES Program, which has provided grants to local non-profits in our community. The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected the ability of non-profits to meet the needs of our citizens and these grants will greatly enhance their ability to ensure the continued support of our citizens and community.”

After a thorough application process several West Tennessee nonprofit agencies are excited to have been approved under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee to receive these funds which will allow them to support more families in our region.

“These funds will be most helpful to the Martin Housing Authority, said Mayor Randy Brundige of Martin, “allowing them to continue services to those in need without interruption."

When the program was announced, Gov. Lee stressed the importance of supporting the nonprofit community. “The COVID-19 pandemic has placed enormous strain on all aspects of our society, and non-profit organizations are no different. Non-profits play a vital role in ensuring Tennesseans’ needs are met in times of crisis, and it’s imperative these organizations receive financial support to continue their work,” said Gov. Lee. “The Tennessee Community CARES Program will help alleviate the duress non-profits are under and ensure they continue to support their communities.”

Mayor Marvin Sykes of Humboldt added, “We are working together for a better community. Places like the Boys and Girls Club and Helping Hand of Humboldt have faced financial burden, so we are even more grateful for this financial support.”

The following agencies in West Tennessee have been named recipients of Tennessee Community CARES funding:
