Special to the State Gazette

On Sunday evening, October 11, Dyersburg City Schools announced classes would resume tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 12, in Phase 2 (Pre-K-8th grade), while Dyersburg High School will operate in Phase 2 modified. The phase announcement was made via a letter from Dyersburg City Schools Director of Schools Kim Worley.

Worley’s letter was as follows:

“Dear Trojan Families,

“Prior to Fall Break, Dyersburg City Schools discussed lessening the restrictions within our schools, especially in grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade, called a Modified Phase 2. Since making that announcement, Dyer County has seen record-high numbers of COVID and I do not feel this is the right time to lessen restrictions. Although I would LOVE to move closer to Phase 4, due to the uptick in the number of cases in Dyer County, we will delay the implementation of any changes. Dyersburg City Schools will remain in Phase 2 when schools reopen on Monday, October 12th, in support of the number one goal of Dyersburg City Schools: The health and safety of students and staff members. As a system, we will watch what these numbers continue to do and more importantly, how they affect Dyersburg City Schools.

“As always, I urge you to continue to wash your hands, socially distance, wear your mask, and continue the safety practices that have allowed us to keep our students and staff safe.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to making this a year of meaningful and memorable experiences for our students. Together, we will get through this and provide the best education for your child!”
