DPD officer relieved of duty, under criminal investigation by TBI
A Dyersburg police officer has been relieved of duty and is now under criminal investigation by the TBI. According to Dyersburg Police Chief Steve Isbell, officer Sharquawn Henderson has been employed with the department since 2017. Due to the active investigation, limited information is being released regarding Henderson’s removal.
On Thursday, March, 2, Isbell released the following statement:
“Thursday afternoon, February 23, 2023, I was notified that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was conducting a criminal investigation on Dyersburg Police officer Sharquawn Henderson. Following Henderson’s interview by TBI Agents Thursday night, I immediately placed Henderson on emergency administrative leave removing his law enforcement powers.
“Friday morning, February 24, after being briefed on the status of the investigation, I terminated Henderson’s employment with the Dyersburg Police Department. Additionally, I made a formal request to the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (POST) seeking to decertify Henderson as a law enforcement officer in the State of Tennessee. Henderson has been employed as a patrol officer for the DPD since November 2017. Additional inquiries should be directed to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.”
More information regarding this investigation will be published as details are made available.
