Dyersburg Primary School closes doors on Friday as Servpro tackles mold issue

Dyersburg Primary School closed its doors Friday, August 18, after informing parents of a mold situation on campus which reportedly stemmed from an air conditioner malfunction. Director of Schools Kim Worley said Servpro Certified Mold Remediation Team was contacted immediately to assess and remedy the situation.
While the official evaluation of the mold will not be available until next week, Director of Schools Kim Worley said Servpro did inform school officials the mold posed no safety threat to students or staff. Worley noted that the mold is mainly impacting the cafeteria area, with other areas of the school impacted to a lesser degree.
On Wednesday, August 16, parents were informed via text and telephone calls that the Servpro Certified Mold Remediation Team would be on site to clean the HVAC system and all rooms of the building simultaneously. Director of School Kim Worley said the Servpro team required three consecutive days to rid the entire school of mold spores. She said the crew would be completing work on Sunday, August 20.
The notification sent out to parents stated the following:
“Dyersburg Primary School will be closed Friday, August 18th, for professional cleaning. An air conditioner malfunction this summer resulted in excess humidity in the school. This issue requires Dyersburg City Schools to remediate mold growth in our school. In order to immediately resolve this issue, Servpro will be on-site to professionally fix the issue so our students and staff can get back to learning safely on Monday. The cleaning will begin on Thursday, August 17 at 6 p.m. The previously scheduled parent orientation for Pre-K and Kindergarten parents will be canceled. We appreciate your understanding.”
Upon receiving a copy of the Servpro evaluation of the mold—expected next week— the State Gazette will be publishing an update.
