Dyer County Fair kicks off Monday

This year’s Dyer County Fair is going to be greater than ever: spectacular thrills for the senses--cotton candy, funnel cakes, contests, and rides and rides and rides. Sunny days and pleasant evenings await fairgoers. Sorghum Valley awaits your visit as well.

The amazing Torres Family Circus presents their stunning spectacles in the midway each day at various times. Live music will fill the air, along with the aroma of vendor goodies and the happy sounds of children and adults on the rides. The carnival of rides awaits everyone.

Each night will see a $1,000 drawing, and on Friday night, there’ll be a vehicle give-away.

Monday’s sponsor of the day is Express Dyersburg Chevrolet/GMC. Special events that day include youth floral and gardening shows, exhibitions, and a “Fairest of the Fair” contests for ages 14-15 and ages 16-20.

Tuesday’s sponsor is the Dyersburg/Dyer County, Tennessee Chamber of Commerce. Special events include live music by SG and the Hard Times (sponsored by Burks Broadcasting). And nowhere else can you see the “Show Me Swine Racers.”

Security Bank is Wednesday’s Sponsor of the Day. At noon, Security Bank is hosting a lunch and some rides for special needs children. In the evening come the contests everyone waits for: Jr. Pre-Teen Miss Dyer County Fair (ages 9-10) and Pre-Teen Miss Dyer County Fair (ages 11-13).

Thursday, First Citizens is sponsor of the Day. 11 a.m. is a special “rides for seniors” event and throughout the morning, adult 4H exhibits. Thursday night is bracelet night and the contests: Children’s Talent Show, Little Miss Dyer County Fair (ages 5-6), Junior Miss Dyer County Fair (ages 7-8), and the Youth Talent Contest.

Things kick into full gear on Friday, when Burks Beverage is the sponsor of the day. There’s a tractor driving contest. Local music sensations The Hutcheson Brothers will give a concert at 6 p.m. And it’s what everyone wants: the truck and tractor pull contest. The contests continue with Tiny Mr. and Miss Dyer County Fair (ages 2) and Petite Miss Dyer County Fair (ages 3-4). Friday night is going to be wild—free vehicle giveaway night.

Saturday will be no less of a wonder. Tyson is sponsor of the day. You’ve got to have the washer toss contest, the LEGO Brick Challenge, Memphis Wrestling Meet and Greet and an actual match. To top that off, a demolition derby, capped by another $1,000 giveaway.
