Letter To the Editor

About three months ago, I went to the Dyersburg Hospital admission room and their three chairs had no arms on them. I am 85 and it was very difficult to get out of the chair without arms. Everyday, several patients in much worse physical condition than I am sit in chairs without arms in the admission room and have difficulty getting out of the chair.

Before I left the hospital, i talked to the hospital administrator about getting chairs with arms for the admission room. The administrator said she would talk with her supervisor abbout the chairs for the admission room.

On April 13, three months later, I was in the hospital admission room and the three chairs without arms were still there. Before I went in the admission room, I saw a man on a walker and a woman probably both in their seventies and both could barely walk, go in the admission room and sit in the chairs without arms. Arms are on chairs to help people to sit and get out of them easier, especially the elderly.

I talked with the hospital administrator again about getting chairs with arms in the admission room. The administrator said she had talked with her supervisor about the chairs. She agreed to talk with her supervisor again about the chairs.

It seems to me that the hospital administrator would have the authority to purchase three chairs with arms for the admission room for a cost of under $500 after she agreed with me that the chairs with arms were needed in the admission room.

My purpose for asking for the chairs is not for me but for all the hospital patients who would benefit from chairs with arms in the admission room, especially the older people.

I hope that someone will read this letter to the editor that will contact someone at the hospital to get chairs with arms in the admission room.
