Newbern Police confiscate drugs, firearm following traffic stop

On May 5, 2024, at approximately 12:23 a.m., a Newbern Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation on Williams Street. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Cody Thomason (31) of Hornbeak, TN. During the stop officers were granted consent to search the vehicle. Officers located a felony amount of methamphetamine and a loaded 9mm handgun.
Tyler was taken into custody and transported to the Dyer County Law Enforcement Center for processing. Thomason was charged with possession of schedule II (methamphetamine), driving while in possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and cited for failure to maintain lane of travel.
Suspects of alleged crimes are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
