Sawyer surrenders to sheriff's department

Fugitive from justice and former Dyer County Deputy Sheriff Danny Ray Sawyer turned himself in to the Dyer County Jail Thursday morning. Sawyer, 41, of 1918 Sam Houston Drive, Dyersburg, later Thursday appeared in general sessions court to plead guilty to a charge of failure to appear. A pregnant woman who pleaded guilty to forgery in Dyer County Circuit Court Tuesday was furloughed to a Memphis program to deliver her baby before she must report to prison. Shelly R. Whether it was to share a lifestyle of eating or to try something different, area cooks showed off their cooking talents at the Soybean Recipe Cookoff, held Monday night during the Dyer County Fair. The cookoff began in 1998 when the Dyer County Fair Board received a grant to promote Tennessee products. It has since become an annual event. This year's cookoff had 13 entries, which was down slightly from last year, according to contest superintendent Roberta Robertson...
