Inquiry set for police shooting of family dog

The Wednesday shooting of a dog by a Dyersburg police officer will be investigated by the Dyersburg Police Department and the Dyer County Humane Society, the city's police chief said. Board votes to protect employee pension fund

The Dyersburg City Board voted Wednesday to guarantee the city employee retirement fund against any shortfalls that might occur as a result of the purchase of the former Dyersburg Fabrics plant along Hoff Road. The motion offered by alderman Bob Kirk said, "The Dyersburg City Board concurs in the Dyersburg employee retirement plan participating with the County of Dyer, T.V.A., First Citizens National Bank, First Tennessee Bank and Security Bank in the finance and acquisition of an industrial plant facility by the Industrial Development Board of Dyer County with the promise of $25 million of capital investment and the creation of 600 jobs. ...

Independent garage owners challenge city policy

A coalition of seven independent garage owners within the Dyersburg city limits challenged the city's use of only one auto repair shop, the Main Street Service Center, for repairs of all police vehicles under a cost of $500. Rabies vaccination rate appears to fall for Dyer County pets; shots offered at low price this month

W.D. Hilliard believes he's discovered an alarming trend: fewer dogs and cats were vaccinated against rabies here last year than in the previous three years. He doubts that the number of dogs and cats has actually declined. Instead, he suspects Dyer County pet owners just aren't getting their pets vaccinated. He considers that negligence.
