Newbern water advisory confuses customers; mayor says water safe

Rumors and a recent television news report about the safety of the Newbern water supply are confusing local residents. Mayor Joe Adams said Monday that a number of people have called city hall to find out if the water is safe to drink. He believes it is, and he's still drinking it. On Thursday, though, Adams issued a "boil water" advisory for water customers who have infants or elderly persons in the household and for anyone with illnesses, organ transplants or compromised immune systems...

For most students, parents and teachers at Dyersburg High, it probably seems the summer break has been almost non-existent. Within three weeks, the halls at DHS will again be flooded with students as the 2003-04 academic year gets under way. Cal Johnson, assistant principal at DHS, said, however, "The first day of school is only one day earlier than it was last year. Graduation was on June 6, and the last day for underclassmen was June 5. We've been off for almost two full months."...
