Crew to start Lakewood riser pipe repairs on Monday

Repairs to Lakewood Subdivision's main dam are scheduled to begin Monday, June 21. The corroded riser pipe can no longer hold the lake level at normal pool because water pours through holes in the pipe. The West Tennessee River Basin Authority, which built the dam in 1978, has hired Larry Smith Dozer of Friendship to reline the riser pipe. The Friendship company has subcontracted the work to Performance Plus of Geary, Okla., which specializes in these types of projects...

Boy killed when van flips

A Newbern youth was killed in a single-car accident south of the city on Sunday when the vehicle in which he was a passenger crashed on Old Newbern Road. Dakota W. Thompson, 13, was pronounced dead at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 1995 Dodge van driven by Gwendolyn Thompson, 35, of Newbern was driving northbound on the road when the vehicle ran off the right edge of the road. ...
