Earthfest takes education into the outer world

Desirae Nettles leaned in close to her work, carefully sketching a view of the Earth onto a slice of a cottonwood tree. The wooden disk was destined to become the pendant on a "tree cookie" necklace. Desirae and other Dyersburg Middle School sixth-graders were free to decorate the wooden pieces any way they chose. Most of them illustrated ideas they'd learned during the school's first Earthfest. Volunteers sought for countywide cleanup

More volunteers are needed to assist with the countywide litter cleanup project scheduled for Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. until noon, according to Tom Grueser, who chairs the event. Grueser said the goal this year is to have 250 volunteers picking up trash along Dyer County's roadways. ...
