City OKs new roof for DPD, city court

The Dyersburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Monday night gave the nod to a local firm, Frazier Roofing of Dyersburg, to re-roof the police department and municipal courtroom building. On a motion by Alderman Bob Dean and a second by Alderman James Lee, Frazier's bid of $69,608 was accepted. In the 2005-06 budget only $50,000 was allocated for the project, so the project will be divided into two phases -- $47,000 in the current fiscal year and the remainder in next year's budget...

Tornadoes causing problems in rivers

The April 2 tornadoes that swept through Northwest Tennessee are creating extra work for the West Tennessee River Basin Authority. Executive Director David Salyers said he knows that trees downed in the storms are blocking the South Fork Obion River between Trezevant and McKenzie. Doctor disciplined for illicit drug use

The Tennessee Department of Health placed a Friendship doctor on probation on Friday for prescribing himself drugs for personal use. Dr. James Roy Appleton III, M.D. will be on probation for a minimum of three years, according to an agreed order. The board found that the doctor prescribed himself Tramadol and Hydrocodone for personal use. The board also found that Appleton had a drug and alcohol problem that interfered with his ability to communicate with staff and patients...

City hires new energy firm to firm prices

The city of Dyersburg has abandoned its decade-long association with energy group Tennergy for a new company that it hopes will provide more stable pricing. Greg Williams, city purchasing agent, said Dyersburg made the switch this month to EnerCon, an natural gas management group that represents industrial clients and a number of medium-sized cities in Kentucky, as soon as it could pay off gas contracts made through Tennergy. ...
