County sales tax collections appear headed for slight rise

With county sales tax collections standing at 1.81 percent above a year ago and one month to go in the fiscal year, Dyer County Trustee Judy Patton is hopeful. "I'm hopeful the collections for the (fiscal) year will be slightly above those of a year ago," she said. "For this year we didn't budget any increase, so any increase we get will be good news for the schools."...

Dumped tires to be cleaned up

When Dyer County Building Inspector Daniel Cobb found 50-60 tires in a local creek, he turned to the public for help. In Monday's edition of the State Gazette, Cobb said it would have taken a long time to dump that many tires and someone surely saw the dumping in action on Jones Creek. Developer, city may partner for water expansion

The Water, Sewer and Gas Committee on Monday agreed to pay developer Hunter Newbill up to $30,000 for pipe and other materials if he will perform all the labor necessary to add approximately 5,400 feet of water line from Viar to Anderson Road...

Slain man evaded local arrest in January
