Overactive imagination confounds deputies

Dyer County deputies were confounded by a story told to parents by youths of a girl tied up in an abandoned shack in the woods off Bruceville Slab Road on Sunday. According to the incident report, a concerned parents contacted deputies at about 5 p.m. after youths who had returned from riding four-wheelers in the area said they had heard about "a little girl tied up in an old shack in the woods." As the youths approached, the report said, "a man on a horse ran them off."...

Farmers Market ends early due to drought

Saturday was the end of the inaugural season for the Farmers Market o the Square in Downtown Dyersburg due to the continuing drought conditions across the region. "We are almost out of every vegetable we sell," said market director Steve Guttery of the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce. "Most of our farmers didn't plant sweet potatoes or turnip greens because of the uncertain growing conditions."...
