The Dyersburg area will be under a moderate risk of dangerous weather this afternoon and tonight as a widespread severe thunderstorm outbreak is likely across the Midsouth. Michael Scotten, a lead forecaster with the National Weather Service in Memphis, said the brunt of the severe weather is forecast across north Mississippi, "but there is still a chance for tornadoes in Northwest Tennessee."...

A Newbern police officer lost his job in 2003 when the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission decertified him. Now, five years later, an appeals court has decided that the POST Commission acted in error. "So far as we can tell from the information in this record, Wright is qualified to be a law enforcement officer under (Tennessee law), and is fully qualified for certification under (Tennessee regulations) without the need for a waiver or other discretionary action by the commission," the Tennessee Court of Appeals stated in an opinion filed April 29.. ...
