'Taking Back Our Community' event starts today

A three-day event, "Taking Back Our Community" will be held Thursday-Saturday, May 22-24 behind the Bruce Community Precinct on the corner of Peabody and Fair streets. A tent has been set up at the site. Speakers will include pastors from Dyersburg, Newbern, Memphis and California. Deadline set for DSCC's College for Kids program

Historical Society drive to preserve oral histories continuing

The Dyer County Historical Society is continuing its conversations with residents in the area as a part of Humanities Tennessee's "The People of Tennessee -- Stories of Land and Place" project. The goal of the oral-history project is to collect 20 interviews with people who were raised in or near the bottomland of Dyer County. The Dyersburg High School Class of 2008 celebrated its academic accomplishments and enjoyed the new air conditioning in the gym at a Senior Scholarship and Awards Assembly on Monday afternoon.
