TTC-Newbern Auto program gains honors

The Tennessee Technology Center-Newbern's Automotive Program was honored this week as runner-up for the "Tomorrow's Technician School of the Year" award from Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. and Babox Publications. Student collects 25,000 pull tabs

Garrett Coburn, second grade student at Newbern Grammar School, recently collected 25,000 soda can tops in a class and community project to aid the Ronald McDonald House at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in Memphis. Funds from pull tab recycling drives like this one bring in an average of $250 per week to the facility that serves as a home away from home for families with children battling cancer and catastrophic illness. ...

Bank lawsuits combined in federal court case

One of the largest banks in the Mid-South is seeking redress from three other financial institutions for payments made for federal deposit insurance. First State Bank of Union City, a $1.1-billion asset firm with locations from Dyersburg to Knoxville, filed civil actions in Obion County in February against banks in Arkansas, Kentucky and Georgia for a total of $460,038.93...

A suspicious vehicle led Dyersburg Police to a mobile methamphetamine lab on Thursday on Harrell Avenue.
