BSA holds annual Davy Crockett District Banquet

Thursday, Nov. 13, the Boy Scouts of America held their annual Davy Crockett District Banquet at the Newbern Recreational Center. Awards were given out to leaders for their leadership and commitment to Scouting. Proposed rules could emphasize recycling

Recycling may take a more predominant role throughout Tennessee if the state adopts a set of proposed solid waste regulations. Boosting the state's recycling rate may be the only way local governments will meet Tennessee's new waste reduction goal. Counties currently are required to divert at least 25 percent of their solid wastes away from Class I municipal landfills. ...

Dyersburg Intermediate's Craig named Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year

At Dyersburg Intermediate School's recent honors program, teacher Teresa Craig was named 2008 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for the Dyer County area. The honor brings Craig a $100 Wal-Mart gift card and DIS a check for $1,000. "I am proud to be here today," said Dyersburg Wal-Mart Manager Cathy Strawbridge. City Board grants bids, hears Chamber updates

Members of the Dyersburg City Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the purchase of three 1/2-ton pickup trucks at last night's regular meeting. Purchasing Agent Greg Williams recommended board members grant a bid for two trucks for the street department and one truck for the wastewater department to Delta Chevrolet in Dyersburg in the amount of $42,539.52...

Barbara Walker has traveled the globe to teach and learn the art of painting on fine porcelain, and this week she returns to Dyersburg State Community College with an exhibit and reception featuring her beautiful creations. One look at the vases, platters, limoges boxes, ginger jars, tiles and tea sets on display in the Learning Resource Center on DSCC's Dyersburg campus leaves no doubt of the quality of Walker's work, but her miniature portraits captivate her audience with their lifelike quality and minute detail.. ...

West Tenn. man shot near Reelfoot Lake

Chimes for Charity begins, auction continues through this week

The 60th annual Chimes for Charity auction kicked off last evening, with 77 children sponsored and a grand total of $3,478. The annual fundraiser has been a holiday tradition for many in the Dyersburg area. Sponsored by the Dyersburg Jaycees, proceeds provide Christmas for approximately 900 children in Dyer County...
