Halls residents elect new mayor, replace half of city board

The residents of Halls voted for change last week, electing Eugene Pugh as mayor and replacing 50 percent of the aldermen serving on the town's board. In the May 7 election, Pugh nudged out current Mayor Trent McManus and James Fitzhugh with 51.83 percent of the vote. Pugh earned 354 of the 689 votes cast in the election, with McManus earning 328 votes and Fitzhugh reporting one vote...

National Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony to be held Friday

Each year, roughly 150 officers are killed in the line of duty. Dyer County will hold its annual ceremony observing National Law Enforcement Memorial Day from 11:30 a.m. until noon, on Friday, May 15, on the lawn of the Dyer County Courthouse. The event, honoring those who have given all in the line of duty and local officers risking their lives each day to keep peace in the community, will feature a presentation of the flag by Dyer County High School's JROTC, a performance by Christ Classical Academy's Children's Choir and additional music provided by students from Dyersburg High school.. ...

Two dogs shot to death on owner's property

On Wednesday, two dogs were killed on an owner's property on Old Fowlkes Road. The dogs were border collies belonging to Missy Thurmond. Steve Garner found the dogs when he went by her house at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One dog was found in the driveway, underneath a truck, while the other was found in the backyard in the flowerbed next to the garage...

Bobby Eugene Lamb, 74, of Tiptonville, died Friday, May 8, 2009 at his residence. He was retired as a bus driver for the Lake County School System, an appliance repairman and a former sharecropper. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ridgely Church of Christ, where he was a member, with Jeff O'Dell and Dr. Danny Mack Hall officiating. Burial will be in Keefe Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements...
