Edna Faye McCorkle, 69, of Halls, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center where she was a resident. Edna was born one of nine children Monday, April 8, 1940 in Lenox, Tennessee to Gladys and Cletus "Snowball" Snow. She was a regular member of the congregation of the Lenox Church of God of Prophecy while living in Lenox. Not only did she love tending to her flower garden, her greatest joy was preparing a delicious home-cooked meal for her extended family...

Dyersburg 'Death Row Dog' rescued through unique Kentucky program

A Dyersburg-area red healer named T.J. received a last-minute reprieve from the death penalty early this week when he was chosen for a unique pilot program designed to save and train hard-to-place pups from several states. Officials from the Dyer County Humane Society and Animal Shelter met transport volunteers on Monday morning to provide T.J. with a ride to Green River Correctional Center in Center City, Ky. There, T.J. will find a second chance through the Death Row Dogs training program...

Plan to buy a hog, a lamb or a steer when you go to the Dyer County Fair this year. Anyone can do it - even city folks. You see, buyers don't actually take possession of the animals. Most of the livestock head straight to slaughterhouses. Persons buying animals during the Fair's Junior Market Animal Sale are basically making a donation to the 4-H and FFA members who raised the hogs, lambs and steers this year...

Dyer County Fair 'stimulus package' offers $10,000, Toyota Yaris

The Dyer County Fair plans to put a little magic in the air next week with its own version of a stimulus package. Fairgoers have an opportunity to win $1,000 a night, up to $10,000 on Saturday night and a 2009 Toyota Yaris on Friday night. Fair President Patti Greene said the stimulus package offers something everyone can use: cash and a vehicle that gets an estimated 35 miles to a gallon of gasoline on the highway...
