For those interested in local sports, this has been one busy week. While preparations for the annual basketball preview got under way, there were games to be played and roads to travel. After watching the DHS volleyball team roll through the district, region and sub-state competition over the last couple of weeks, dreams were realized when the squad earned the right to travel to Murfreesboro for the state tournament...

Shorthanded Choctaws fall to Brighton in season finale

The Dyer County Choctaws limped into their final game of the 2009 season against Brighton without eight starters, including quarterback Dylan Dye and Marcus Parr, who were suspended for violating team rules. "All of our kids played hard during the game," said Choctaw head coach Adam Renshaw. Trojans end skid, secure playoff berth

Entering Friday night's game against Haywood County, the Dyersburg football team simply couldn't lose if there was any hope of extending a 13-year streak of earning a berth in TSSAA state playoffs. The squad was in the midst of a four-game losing streak, the longest in more than 10 years. A win would assure the team a spot in the playoffs, while a loss would put the squad at the mercy of the confusing qualifying system of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association...
