Trimble board discusses Three Star economic-development program

This month's meeting of the Trimble Board of Mayor and Aldermen was historical as well as informative. Historical in the sense that Monday night's meeting was the first time an African American sat on the board as an alderman. That alderman was Trimble resident John Ivie. The board nominated him during a called meeting last month to fill the position left by alderman Jody Hinson, who resigned because he was moving. Mayor James Davis swore Ivie in on Oct. 26...

Library hosts Rodeo Roundup Saturday

Precious, a horse that performs tricks, will be the highlight of the Rodeo Roundup on Saturday at the McIver's Grant Public Library in Dyersburg. The 15-year-old gelding can count, bow and even lay down and play dead. He's very gentle and will stand still as people vault onto his back. And, when the holidays come around, he dresses up like a reindeer. He and his trainer, Howard Hamilton of Southern Serenity Ranch in Cedar Grove, make appearances as "Santa and the Reindeer Horse."...

Total 20-year prison term given for drug charges

In Dyer County Circuit Court: Thomas was sentenced to 11 months, 29 days in jail, with the sentence suspended immediately. He was placed on probation for the same time period. He also was fined $250. On the first cocaine charge, Isom was accused of possessing about 102 grams of crack cocaine. He was sentenced to eight years in prison and fined $3,000. The prison term is to be served concurrently with three prior sentences...

New food-distribution program available to residents this month

Members of the Dyersburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen learned that Dyersburg ranks No. 6 in need of the 17 West Tennessee counties served by the Memphis Food Bank at the regular board meeting on Monday evening. Mark Oakes of the Salvation Army shared a new voucher program to be offered to residents in Dyersburg and Dyer County as early as this month. ...
