Friendship begins planning Christmas Parade

168th MP Battalion helps raise $6,710 for Chimes

The soldiers of Dyersburg's 168th MP Battalion invaded Chimes for Charity on Thursday evening to raise money for the Dyersburg Jaycees. The final total from the evening was $6,710 with 146 children sponsored - the highest total of the week so far. Maj. Hunter Belcher (left) emcees along with Battalion Commander Col. Barry Collins (right). Three flags which will be flown in the Kuwait theater were sold for $275 each. Other Army items sold were camouflage backpacks, duffle bags, hats, T-shirts, mugs, bracelets and paperweights. Several of the soldiers did 25-plus pushups in exchange for challenges. The 168th Battalion will march in the Veterans Day parade today, and Collins will be the featured speaker. Firestone is scheduled to host on Friday, with First Citizens hosting on Saturday and Cable ONE on Sunday. The event will air on the State Gazette's website (www.stategazette.com), Channel 4, AT&T U-verse Channel 99, WTRO AM 1450 and Eagle 97.3, and Newbern's Channel 2 each night through Saturday from 7-10 p.m. and will start on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m.

County zoning board OKs wind tower on Hwy. 77

The Dyer County Building and Zoning Board granted a permitted use on appeal to EDP Renewables to place a wind tower on Highway 77. The wind tower, which measures just under 200 feet, is part of a three-year study being conducted by EDP Renewables to see if there is enough wind in Dyer County...

Prayer vigil held for Swift

About 30 people gathered at the YMCA soccer field on Thursday evening to pray for the safe return of Karen Swift, the mother of four who disappeared on Sunday, Oct. 30. With temperatures hovering right around 40, organizers made hot chocolate available for those gathered to pray. Veterans honored at Finley Elementary School program
