Voting machines tested

Members of both Republican and Democratic parties test voting machines before the upcoming early voting and March elections. Local party leaders Jewell Horner (R) and Tod Hayes (D) were on hand on Monday to assist their machine technicians in the testing of 57 MicroVote Infinity electronic voting machines at the Dyer County Election Commission. 'A lot of work goes into testing the integrity of the machine,' said Dyer County Election Administrator Anita Fowlkes. The techs make sure the votes from the last election are zeroed out and the new ballots are loaded onto the machine and it is working properly. After the machines are approved they are sealed. Early voting in Dyer County is Feb. 15-28. Election Day is Tuesday, March 6. City board awards bids, beer permit, rezones properties

Troop 87 moved from observing the city school board meeting to observing the city of Dyersburg Board of Mayor and Alderman. The troops are working on their citizenship and community badge and were joined by a larger audience than usual to watch their city elected officials in action. The board took action on several items including rezoning property requests, beer permits and approved bids for the gas and fire departments.

2 females charged with attempted murder after stabbing

Police have two women in custody on attempted first-degree murder charges after a weekend stabbing sent on man to the Med. According to court documents, the incident occurred on Sunday in the parking lot of the 901 Club building at 1129 Forrest St. when three females allegedly got into a fight with 19-year-old Keith Shaw. After Shaw was able to get away from the women he fell to ground and was bleeding. Shaw was allegedly stabbed at least seven times with one being to the center of the chest...
