Trimble Covered Bridge Music Fest and Bean Cook-off next Saturday

The second-annual Covered Bridge Music Fest and Bean Cook-off will take place on Saturday, May 19, along East Main Street in Trimble, Tenn. The music starts at 2 p.m. and the Dyer County High School cheerleaders will make an appearance at 4:15 p.m. There will also be a bean cook-off, kiddy rides, and food. Beans for the bean cook-off may be picked up at Security Bank in Trimble or by calling Shirley at 589-1692 or David at 445-0897. Registration forms must be filled out and turned in before receiving their 5 pounds of beans. Participants may cook as many beans as they want (white, brown, mixed). Only beans cooked on site on an open fire will be judged. Judging begins at 4:30 p.m. First-, second- and third-place ribbons will be awarded for best beans, best dressed and theme. Beans are to be given away after the judges sample them.

Accident sends two to hospital

A wrecker pulls a Ford Mustang out of a ditch along Highway 104 near Finley on Friday evening. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the one-vehicle accident that sent the two occupants of the car to Dyersburg Regional Medical Center for treatment. A THP trooper could not release information at the time of the incident, but witnesses say the driver was headed west and weaving across both lanes while going a high rate of speed. He reportedly almost hit oncoming vehicles before crashing the car in the ditch. Witnesses stated the driver, who was an older male, told them he had a tire blowout. The female passenger was reportedly injured and a witness assisted her with her cuts before emergency personnel came. Traffic was backed up for a short time while the wreck was cleared. The THP is investigating the accident.

He was a retired farmer and employee for Lake County Highway Department and a member of Tiptonville Church of Christ. Public meeting set to draw community interest on bike lanes, sidewalks

Where will they get the money? County budget committee hears from fire dept., humane society

The Dyer County Budget Committee has one more week of budget presentations before it begins reviewing department budgets and making recommendations for approval. This past week, the committee had two big requests. One was from the fire department, whose fleet of vehicles has long been showing signs of wear and tear, and the second came from the Dyersburg/Dyer County Humane Society, which told the committee that it could not continue to operate within the same budget it has in previous years...
