Gladys Adams, 95 of Newbern, Tennessee died on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Dyersburg Manor in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Born Tuesday, February 27, 1917 in Newbern, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Gibson and the late Mattie Lou Payne Gibson. She was the retired owner of Gladys' Dress Shop, retired owner of Adams Dairy Farm and was a former employee of Morris Manufacturing. Mrs. Adams was a member of the Newbern First Baptist Church...

Crochet Guild donates caps to Community Cancer Fund

Mattie Chandler, charter member of the Dyersburg Crochet Guild presents handmade caps to the Dyer County Community Cancer Fund. The caps will be given to local cancer patients as cold weather sets in the area. Pictured are CCF Director Debra Roberson (left); Mattie Chandler, a charter member of the crochet guild; and Beverly Fowlkes, CCF board member. The Dyersburg Crochet Guild meets the last Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the McIver's Grant Public Library.

Mid South Riders, THP ride in Sheriff's Toy Run

Members of the Mid South Riders, the Dyer County Sheriff's Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol pose with a cache of toys donated during the annual Dyer County Sheriff's Toy Run this past Saturday. Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box (second from right) hosted the event and escorted the riders to Caruthersville, Mo. 'We had a great run and good turnout despite damp conditions,' said Box. The ride is done in partnership with the Sheriff's Fight Crime Invest in Kids Campaign. This campaign focuses on interacting with children at an early age and making a positive impression upon them. The toys will be donated to a Head Start program to be given to at-risk youth. Box stated they would continue to accept toy donations for the program up until Christmas Eve at the Dyer County Sheriff's Dept. at 401 East Cedar St., Dyersburg.

Sorghum Valley donations, attendance most ever

A cold front, followed by a warm front caused this past weekend's weather to be anything but predictable as most of the weekend saw heavy rain at times as well as significant cloud cover. However, the poor weather did not deter area residents from visiting Christmas in Sorghum Valley. More than 5,000 people visited the old-town setting during the three-day event and brought with them a record number of donations to support a variety of organizations in the community...
