National Guard's Soldier of the Month

Pvt. (E-2) Matt Austin McCaslin is Team K Royal Knights Soldier of the Month. Team K is the Recruit Sustainment Program that means at the Dyersburg National Guard Armory once a month to prepare joining the Guard. McCaslin was selected based on his physical fitness score of 222, as well as demonstrating knowledge of several of the seven Army values, all in his first drill weekend. McCaslin says he joined the National Guard 'to be an example to (his) kids (Thomas and Lara) and ... to serve (his) country'. McCaslin works for Tim Castellaw Automotive and enlisted as a 91L, which is a heavy construction mechanic. McCaslin received the GI Bill, GI Bill Kicker and a $7,500 enlistment bonus. McCaslin resides in Dyer, Tenn. with his fiancé, Mary Secules, and his two children.
