Sharon Jones, 66, of Dyersburg, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. She was an active member of Hawthorne Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Jeremy Dodson. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Girls' Night Out is Thursday

Members of the ABWA Southern Accent Chapter show off their T-shirts for this Thursday's 'Girls' Night Out' in the Dyersburg State Community College gymnasium. Local ladies are invited to kick off their heels -- literally, to protect the gym floor -- and 'Shop 'til They Drop and Support a Great Cause' from 5-8 p.m., on Thursday, April 4. Funds from the annual event will benefit two ABWA scholarships to DSCC. Between 50 and 60 vendors are expected, with each committed to offering a door prize. Tickets are just $5 at the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce, at the door on the night of the event or from any ABWA member. Oil-base paint collection event on Friday

Dyer County in cooperation with the Tennessee Department of Conservation (TDEC) will be conducting an oil-base paint collection event on Friday, April 5 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Dyer County Building and Zoning Office at 1910 Pioneer Road. This event is to collect only oil-base paint, stains, varnishes, enamels, etc. The event will not be collecting latex paint. Latex paint may be dried out and disposed with normal trash. No other hazardous materials will be accepted at this event...

Cause still unknown for DHS fire

As students at Dyersburg High School return to classes on Wednesday morning, the cause of Tuesday morning's fire is still under investigation. Dyersburg High School students got a break from classes on Tuesday after a fire broke out in a storage area in the rear of the school around 1 a.m. on Tuesday. Although the blaze was contained to a storage area in the rear of the school and quickly extinguished by Dyersburg firefighters, the damage was enough for school officials to cancel classes...
