Hometown Urgent Care holds ribbon cutting

The Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 12 at Hometown Urgent Care P.L.L.C. The new clinic is locally owned and operated by Family Nurse Practitioner Tracie Woodward and is located at 1375 A Flowering Dogwood Lane in Dyersburg. Community leaders, Chamber representatives, city and county officials, staff, family and friends were all on hand to celebrate the special occasion. Guests at the event were treated to refreshments and given tours of the new clinic.

St. Jude Rides -- Peoria to Memphis

Approximately 300 riders and passengers of the St. Jude Rides -- Peoria to Memphis bike run make their way down Highway 51 Bypass on their way to Memphis on Friday morning. The riders, coming from Peoria, Ill., made a stopover in Dyersburg on Thursday evening and were treated to a spaghetti supper by members of the Mid-South Riders, the local chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association and several more volunteers. The bikers raised $650,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, which they were going to present to the hospital on Friday.

Fall weather brings crowd to Depot Days

Depot Days was held on Saturday in Newbern. The once-a-year fundraiser held to benefit the historic train depot was a success, as residents not just from Newbern but from the surrounding areas came out to enjoy a day filled with activities, games and fellowship. Newbern residents had a slightly heavy heart as George Butler, a longtime advocate of the depot and a member of the planning committee, passed away in August, but donations were accepted throughout the day in his honor...

ATM burglarized

The burglary of an ATM machine at Dyersburg State Community College has DPD investigators reviewing evidence in hopes of finding those responsible. Dyersburg Police responded to the Student Center at DSCC around 7 am on Friday in response to the burglary of a First Citizens National Bank ATM. DPD Lt. Billy Williams stated that sometime during the early morning hours of Friday someone gained entry into the Student Center and vandalized the machine. The culprits were able to get away with an undetermined amount of money. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Dyer County at 731-285-TIPS or Dyersburg Police by dialing 311.
