Shriners make donation for fire safety trailer

The Dyersburg Al Chymia Shriner Organization recently made a donation to the Dyersburg/Dyer County community outreach program. The donation, presented on Thursday, Sept. 26, was made to help with the purchase a fire safety trailer. The trailer will be used to train and educate both children and adults on safety in the event of a home fire. The trailer will also have a room inside for educating children what action to take in the event of tornado/severe storm warning. County fire committee OKs three fire trucks

Community Barbecue for Cancer begins

A small army of volunteers gathered on the Dyer County Courthouse lawn on Thursday evening to make the final preparations for today's 29th annual Community Barbecue for Cancer. Food lines will open at 10 a.m. at the Dyer County Courthouse in downtown Dyersburg and customers will be able to purchase potatoes and onions, barbecue or barbecue bologna sandwiches, chips, baked beans, slaw, and barbecue sauce. Also, Boston butts, a slab of ribs, barbecue and barbecue bologna will be for sale. First Citizens National Bank main branch in downtown Dyersburg will host a breakfast bake sale in its lobby. First South Bank's downtown branch will also hold a baked goods sale in their lobby. The Dyer County Board of Realtors will also be selling baked goods at the event. A host of local celebrities will also be manning the fryer to cook the ever so popular potatoes and onions. Hillshire Brands will again have a truck at court square, selling sausage by the pound. The event will last until 7 p.m. or until the food is sold out. Money raised from the event will go to benefit local residents facing a cancer diagnosis.
