Mrs. Neima Pierce Smith, 90, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Dyersburg Manor. She was retired from J.C. Penney and was a lifelong member of Millers Chapel Church of Christ. She is survived by one son Eddie C. Smith and wife Barbara of Round Mountain, TX; two daughters, Mary Alice Greer and husband Larry of Dyersburg and Peggy Hendren and husband Sid of Bonicord; six grandchildren, Scott Greer and wife Kristie of Bonicord, Shelley Warren and husband Shane of Newbern, Josh Hendren and wife Brianna of Friendship, Julie Smith of Las Vegas, NV, Brian Smith of Little Rock, AR and Lori Peckenpaugh Garner of Dyersburg; eleven great-grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren.. ...

DIS walk to school big hit

More than 175 students hit the pavement last week as Dyersburg Intermediate School sponsored this year's first Walk-to-School event. A crisp October morning provided ideal conditions for the trek. The students hiked to school from a number of different locations, including First Methodist Church, Tabernacle Baptist Church, and the old Jenny Bell School, the Neighborhood Activity Center, and the parking lot of the former Christian Church. DIS staff members and parent volunteers who chaperoned the groups met students at each site. Walk-to-School is a national health initiative overseen locally by Kristen Bird, Coordinated School Health administrator for the Dyersburg City Schools. More such events are planned as the school year progresses.

Finley native to host benefit concert
