Lurlene Hummer, 90, of Newbern, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at The Highlands of Dyersburg. She was a retired obstetric technician at Parkview Hospital. When the Associated Press Class A Basketball poll was released on Monday, history was made for the Halls Tigers as it marked the first time in school history that the team was ranked No. 1 in the state of Tennessee in the polls.

DHS hosts Coaches vs. Cancer Saturday

Though it will be the featured entertainment on Saturday night at Terry Glover Gymnasium, basketball will not be the primary focus. Spreading awareness of cancer in the community is the main goal as Dyersburg High School will be the site of four basketball games beginning that afternoon.

Caterpillar presents check to Trimble Elementary School for $6,000

Caterpillar has been an adopt-a-school partner with Trimble Elementary School for over 18 years now, and although the adopt-a-school program has declined in success, Cat has continued to show the students of Trimble their dedication and ongoing commitment through their constant endeavors to help the school by providing awards and candy each quarter to students being recognized for their hard work and academic successes.

Corps of Engineers lowers flood-fight response level
