Lady Choctaws dominate second half to win region title

After a clutch three-pointer at the halftime buzzer, the Lady Choctaws rode the momentum from that Olivia Crane trifecta into a dominating second-half performance that saw Dyer County's girls claim the program's first region title since 2000 with a 70-51 win over Bartlett in the 7AAA Championship Game on Wednesday night at Arlington High School.

DMS students win awards at West Tennessee History Day

For the first time, Dyersburg Middle School students have entered and won awards at the West Tennessee History Day Event. National History Day is an academic competition involving history students, grades 6-12. It began in Cleveland, Ohio, 46 years ago, initiated by a Case Western Reserve University history professor named David Van Tasselas. It grew from 129 students in 1974 to over 500,000 students in 48 states in 1991.

DHS baseball to host Alumni Day 2016

Pitts earns rank of Eagle Scout

William Pitts, Boy Scout Troop 88, Dyersburg, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout Monday evening Feb. 29. The ceremony took place at the First Baptist Church, 220 Masonic St., downtown Dyersburg. The church has been the home of Troop 88 ever since the troop was founded in 1940, by its first scoutmaster, Robert Cloar. William is the son of Keith and Jennifer Pitts. Troop 88 Scoutmaster Jack Foster and Asst. Scoutmasters Mark Jones and Darren Strayhorn presented the award.

First Baptist to host Night of Worship in memory of Olivia Greenlee

First Baptist Church will offer a special Night of Worship this Sunday, March 6, at 6 p.m., in memory of Olivia Greenlee and her family. Olivia was a music education major attending Union University in Jackson when her life was tragically taken in February 2014. She was a member at First Baptist Church in Dyersburg and a member of the Union University Singers, a group leader for the children's music camps and the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, where she participated in many community activities. Olivia was a 2010 graduate of Dyersburg High School, where she was a member of the DHS color guard, the DHS concert band, the DHS choral group and a member of the Miss DHS Court. She was also an honor student at DHS and Union University.

County school board recognizes DC cheerleaders, hears cursive concerns

At the March meeting of the Dyer County Board of Education, discussions were held on modifications to the student handbook, to address public concerns over curriculum, review progressive ideas for future school improvements, and recognize the Dyer County High School basketball cheerleaders, who were awarded their second straight World Championship during their recent competition in Orlando, Fla.

Ware selected to fill position of city court clerk

During Thursday's Public Safety Committee meeting, Sue Teague, human resource manager for the City of Dyersburg, stated city officials were informed weeks ago by letter from City Court Clerk Dianne Williamson that she intended to retire, effective Friday, March 4.
