Trojans open spring practice

The Dyersburg Trojans got their preseason work started on Monday afternoon as the Black and Gold opened spring practice at J.C. Sawyers Stadium. While many of the Trojan football players are committed to spring sports, Dyersburg will travel to Union City on May 5, where the Trojans will hold a joint practice with Union City. Left, DHS head coach Bart Stowe watches as quarterback Riley Jensen hands off to Tavarius Currie. Meanwhile, Dyer County will open its spring football session on Wednesday afternoon.

Heads-up baserunning gives DC district win

With the score tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the 10th, smart baserunning by senior Hailey Mullins turned a near-double play into a walk-off, infield lineout as she sprinted home during the attempt, narrowly beating the ensuing throw to score the winning run in Dyer County's 3-2 win over Munford on Monday night.

Newbern's downtown renovation to begin May 9

After six long years of waiting, Newbern's downtown renovation is finally scheduled to begin. During the recent pre-construction meeting, members of Ford Construction, Newbern City Hall, and TLM Associates discussed preparations for the upcoming overhaul. Construction for the area will begin on May 9, with an estimated day of completion set for Oct. 18. With Newbern Depot Days festivities kicking off in mid-September, city officials expressed concern for the safety of residents, who will be celebrating festivities in the downtown area. City officials will be working with the construction team to ensure that all construction areas are isolated, prior to the festival. Overall, the renovation will include new light posts, sidewalks, and landscaping for the downtown area.

DHS students accepted to Notre Dame

Dyersburg High School seniors Amanda Dunn and Erin Rausch received letters of acceptance to attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall. Their achievements inside and outside the classroom positioned them to be aggressive competitors among the 18,000-plus students who apply each year. During Notre Dame's application evaluation process, students who excel within the context of the highly competitive applicant pool are among those admitted.

PADD kicks off National Prevention Month at Dyer County courthouse

Kicking off National Prevention Month, Prevention Alliance of Dyersburg/Dyer County (PADD) started off its first day of events with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, held at the Dyer County Courthouse. Guests of honor at the event included the District Attorney General's office and Northwest Safeline.
